A quick update!
Well, back after a short hiatus. It was a bit longer than expected, for a number of reasons – but hopefully I’ll be able to devote more time to the site now.
There are a number of teething troubles that have to be sorted out, not least the site email. So currently all the site emails will send, but none are capable of recieving incoming mails – which is a less than ideal situation. I’ve had a stab at raising a ticket with Bluehost, using the support chat tool – the advice was that I’d set the email up correctly and it was likely that the DNS would take 24-48 hours to propogate out.
Alas this proved not to be the solution, but I’m about to have another go at resolving this issue – so I’ll keep you posted. The current Bluehost Support score is 0 for 1, but they’ll get another chance soon.
On the data front.
Over the last year (2025) I have downloaded and locally stored, 253 copies of the Canadian and US Civil registers – they are updated on working days Monday to Friday. With 29 copies of the Australian Civil Register, it would seem to be updated as and when.
The US Civil register being the largest has, as expected the most changes and these are as follows.
On the 1st of January 2025.
Active Frame Count:- 299795
Deregistered Frame Count:- 379659
Type Count:- 92406
On the 31st of December 2025.
Active Frame Count:- 308803
Deregistered Frame Count:- 381561
Type Count:- 93419
The data in the Canadian and Australian registers is recorded in a slightly different way, there is also considerably less data – and in both cases the content has stayed pretty consistent. For the Canadian register it stated the year with 34923 frames and ended the year with 34918, so not that big a change over the year. The Australian register was pretty much the same, starting the year with 16541 frames and ending the year with 16592.
The next steps.
The data sets should be available pretty soon, unless there are other things I have to attend to. The order in which I intend to do things is as follows;
- Sort out the site email, at the moment none of the forms seem to be working correctly – so this one is a precursor to everything else.
- Create and Activate a download page, this will include sample data for the full data sets and some sample data sets.
- Get the shop up and running, where the full commercial data sets will be available.
Anyway, that’s about all for now – hopefully another post coming soon.
