On Approach?
This is a product from Lotus (remember them), you can still get it from some of the internet archive sites. I think it has fallen into the public domain, but you’ll have to check that. It is still in use by a number of people, easy to manage and works really well – will run on all versions of Windows from 1.0a up to 11 with everyting in between.
Paradoically?
The Paradox database is in the same arena as Lotus Approach, still in use but shouldn’t be. Still can be run on all versions of Windows, although later ones may need an emulator. Available as part of WordPerfect Office, you can still buy it.
Apple Write?
You read that right, I only know of one person using this application for logging. But it does work and they have a great workflow setup, but now that the later versions of OSX won’t run it I’m not sure what they will do.
Various spread sheets?
There are a whole plethora of these around, Lotus 123, MS Excel and LibreCalc all have limitations, but would still serve you for years to come if you decided that was the way to go.
Searchable Documents?
Again there are many of these about, but the search function tends to be slow and is sequential. But again when the number of sightings is small, the time to search does not cause any real inconvenience.
Next Post
In the next post I’m having a look at the Air Mobility Command aircraft turning up without a visible serial number, something that really bites my banger!
