So the basic Alpha testing is done, that covers the Home Page and the Blog Page. In build are the About Page and the Download Page, which I’ll get finished as time allows. The About page will cover Plane Spotting and the data sets, along with the pricing information on the data that I plan to sell. At the moment I’m going with the price equivalent of a Starbucks and a Doughnut for a business data set. And for a Research data set I’m going with the price of two Starbucks coffee’s and a Doughnut, well that is the current plan.
Selling the data sets is still a bit away, but it is getting closer. What can you expect for the money, something that will last longer than a Starbucks and probably will be fresher than their Doughnuts. All the information will be on the About Page, so I’ll finalise the costings before that page goes live. But the basics are as follows;
Free Data
These are the same as the old free downloads, with the addition of the hexcode which as I explained will be a bit tricky for the Australian data set. So the file will include the Registration, Manufacturer, Model, Manufacturers Serial or Construction Number and the ASDB Hexcode. These are the same format as the previous free downloads, that is they are Comma Separated Values and there is a single file for each register. There will also be the deregistered aircraft files to match, these will also be in a Comma Separated Values file – allowing you to import them into the application of your choice.
The Stuff that Costs.
Here there are three data sets, the generic spotters data which is the same as the free data – but with the addition of the build year. This amounts to around 750,000 frames, the vast majority of which are from the US Civil tegister. they are available as a PDF, a CSV or an Excel spread sheet. They have all three registers and the deregistered data, where it is available. There will be three different data sets, ranging in price from £4.00 to £12.00 ($5.00 TO $15.00).
The business and the research data sets have significantly more data, see the about page for a full breakduwn of what is in each.
